Under the general direction of the Administrative Services Commander, performs a variety of armory duties, including inspection, maintenance, repair, and service of weapons for the City of St. George Police Department.
Essential Functions (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. 1. Inspects, diagnoses, maintains, repairs, and services weapons for sworn police staff.
2. Develops systems for checking weapons in and out, monitors check-in and check-out of weapons and maintains appropriate records, and conducts follow-up measures as needed.
3. Performs safety and preventative maintenance on all weapons.
4. Responsible for inventory control of all weapons. Orders and maintains inventory and storage of ammunition, weapon cleaning supplies, targets, range apparatus, and safety equipment and maintains accurate records.
5. Reads and interprets technical manuals to facilitate inspection, servicing, repair, and replacement services and activities.
6. Receives and maintains certification on a wide range of weapon types from a variety of manufacturers.
7. Monitors changes in regulations and technology that may affect operations; implements policy and procedural changes after approval; ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances.
8. Stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of weapon maintenance and training; researches emerging products and enhancements and their applicability to City needs.
9. Observes safe work methods and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment as required.
10. Operates a variety of hand and power tools and equipment related to work assignments.
11. Secures equipment at the close of the workday.
12. Performs other related duties as required.
Typical Physical/Mental Demands/Working Conditions
Must possess mobility to work in a standard office and shop setting and to use standard office equipment including a computer; vision to read written materials and a computer screen and to examine firearms; color vision to distinguish between firearm characteristics; and hearing and speech communications in person and over the telephone. This position may require extended periods of sitting and standing; moderate physical effort; uncomfortable working positions such as stooping, crouching, bending, etc.; and ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Intermittent exposure to stress as a result of human behavior and meeting deadlines on a daily basis. Exposure to moderate noise levels and controlled temperature conditions. May be exposed to hazardous physical substances.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Minimum of two (2) years part time related experience working with weapons.
Licenses and Certifications:
• Must possess, or obtain within sixty (60) days, a valid Law Enforcement Armorer Certificate from Glock and Sionics firearms manufacturers.
• Must possess a valid driver license. A valid Utah Driver License must be obtained within 60 days of hire and be maintained throughout employment.

• Applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations regarding weapons specifications.
