Those individuals hired will be required to work as a Tennis & Pickleball Instructor ($23.23 hour), as a Tennis and Pickleball Attendant ($11.08/hour), and conducting Private Lessons ($33.65/hour).

Note: Must be available to work weekends, evenings, holidays and other schedules to help prepare for tennis and pickleball events. This is a part time position with variable hours averaging less than 30 hours per week over a period of 12 months.

Job Description

Recreation Specialist: Tennis & Pickleball Private Lessons III

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Tennis and Pickleball Head Pro. Provides private lessons with beginners, intermediate and advanced players of all ages. Conduct private lessons on city property, using city equipment. Ensure all private lessons are paid for and report them to the Head Tennis & Pickleball Pro. Track all lessons using the system that is provided by the Head Tennis & Pickleball Pro. Agrees to submit all registration and fees to the city of St. George for private lessons.

• Teaches beginner, intermediate and advanced players of all ages and abilities.

• Ensure all private lessons are paid for and report them to the Head Tennis & Pickleball Pro

• Tracks all lessons using the tracking system provided by the Head Tennis & Pickleball Pro

• Ensuring private lessons are scheduled outside normal clinics, tournaments, leagues and special events that are provided by the Head Tennis & Pickleball Pro.

• Promotes and markets private lessons

• Conducts private lessons to the satisfaction of the Head Tennis & Pickleball Pro

• Ensure private lessons are conducted on city property using city equipment

• Ensure all private lessons are registered and paid for through the City of St. George

Typical Physical/Mental Demands/Working Conditions

Conditions vary depending on the assignment or event. May work both indoor and outdoor during tennis and pickleball events in varied temperatures and weather conditions. Requires the use of vision and/or hearing to identify and evaluate emergencies, and must be able to respond to these emergencies quickly and appropriately. Moderately heavy physical activity exerting up to 20-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently. Moderate exposure to stress as a result of human behavior.

Recreation Specialist: Tennis & Pickleball Instructor III

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Tennis & Pickleball Head Pro, Recreation Manager, and City of St. George will teach tennis/pickleball to beginner, intermediate and advanced players of all ages through clinics and camps.

• Teaches Tennis and Pickleball to beginner, intermediate and advanced players of all ages through clinics, camps, classes and special events.

• Promotes and markets the City of St. George tennis & pickleball program

• Keeps Head Pro abreast of any concerns related to staff, programs, drop-in play, and equipment.

• Communicates with recreation clerks at the front desk regarding court reservations and tennis / pickleball events.

• Work camps, tournaments, leagues and clinics when scheduled.

• Count money and reconcile cash register daily

• Performs other related duties as required.

Note: Must be available to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and other schedules to help prepare for recreation offerings. This is a part-time position with variable hours averaging less than 28 hours per week over a period of twelve months.

• Teach all lessons at Tonaquint or Little Valley Pickleball including private, group, junior and adults

• Work the schedule provided by the Head Tennis and Pickleball pro

• Bring issues or concerns regarding players or parents to the Head Pro

• Understand and follow oral and written instructions

• Keep busy during slow times

Knowledge of:

• USTA and USAPA sanctions, rules and regulations

• Current industry teaching development and incorporates them into division teaching standards

• Understands that all private and group Tennis and Pickleball lessons taught within Washington County will be taught under the direction of the City of St. George tennis and pickleball program.

• Have knowledge of google or Microsoft applications

Recreation Worker I - Tennis & Pickleball Attendant I

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Tennis & Pickleball Head Pro, monitors tennis and pickleball facilities, takes reservations/schedules facilities, performs minor maintenance and cleaning of courts, sells and stocks concessions, registers players for tennis and pickleball, handles cash transactions, takes phone calls, updates website and sportsman software, tracks all private lessons, tracks all clinics, deposits receipts, and helps with tournaments, leagues and special events.

• Monitors the tennis and pickleball facilities daily to ensure that the facilities are kept in top condition, including picking up any garbage, making minor repairs, and ensuring the cleanliness and appearance of overall facilities.

• Updates and posts tennis reservations.

• Works at both the Tonaquint Tennis Facility and Little Valley Pickleball Facility according to the schedule.

• Registers players for tennis and pickleball tournaments, clinics, lessons, etc. Follows money handling policies. Make deposits to the Recreation Center or the Commons Building.

• Communicates with the recreation clerks at the front desk regarding the reservation list and registration of events.

• Works tournaments, leagues and special events.

• Answers phone calls and works with the public in a professional manner. Must be able to resolve conflicts with the public in such a manner as to protect the rights of the City while encouraging the use of the facility by all interested citizens.

• Cleans and maintains an organized working space at both locations.

• Keeps Head Pro informed of all aspects going on at both facilities.

• Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications

Education: None required.

Experience:

Minimum of four (4) years of tennis or pickleball playing experience.

Must be a 3.5 level or higher (determined by Head Tennis & Pickleball Pro)

Minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching tennis/pickleball

Licenses and/or Certifications:

CPR, First Aid, AED certification required. Must be obtained within 60 days of hire and maintained throughout employment.

Certified Instructor through PTR, PPR, or USPTA for minimum of one (1) year

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of:

• USAPA and USTA sanctions, rules and regulations

• Current industry teaching techniques and incorporates them into the lesson.

• Understands that all private and group Tennis and Pickleball lessons taught within Washington County will be taught under the direction of the City of St. George tennis and pickleball program.

Ability to:

• Understand and follow oral and written instructions

• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

• Be a good self starter
