Job Description

Position Summary:

This is a part-time position under the general direction of the Communications and Marketing Director, performs various projects relating to communications, marketing, branding, and public relations.  Coordinate with Leisure Services staff on social media relation efforts.  This position requires a working knowledge of computers and social media marketing, and communications. Assists the department by promoting programs and events, and will also participate as needed in actual event management.

·         Proactively contributes stories about the department’s programs and events to the media and through other appropriate outlets. Special attention to Marathon and Art Festival.

·         Works with the City’s Communications and Marketing Director to coordinate efforts and to ensure a consistent message. Ensure communications focus on accomplishing Department objectives and policies.

·         Effectively uses all communication mediums available to the City, including but not limited to the City’s website, newsletter, utility bill inserts, mailers, social media platforms, government access channel, billboard space, marquee usage, advertising buys, and so on.

·         Coordinates marketing efforts of programs and other special City events in cooperation with designated staff.

·         Supports and administers the City’s brand and brand promise.

·         Works with the City’s Communications and Marketing Director to help ensure that all published department materials comply with City policy as outlined in the Style Guide.

·         Contribute and assist in the development of the City’s photography library.

·         Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Typical Physical/Mental Demands/ Working Conditions:

Light physical effort in office environment.  Comfortable working positions handing light weights up to 20 pounds.  Intermittent sitting, standing and walking.  Generally pleasant working conditions.  Occasional exposure to stress as a result of human behavior.  Some weekend and evening work required for special events and programming. Some exposure to elements such as heat, cold, dampness, fumes, noise, dust or grease.


Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree or some college with coursework in communication, marketing or public relations preferred.

 

Experience:   Demonstrated positive work experience.  Previous social media experience is preferred.

Licenses and/or Certifications:  Must possess a valid driver license and it must be maintained throughout employment.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of:

·      Basic photography and video, social media platforms and mobile applications.  Computer software including word processing, desktop publishing highly desirable.

Ability to:

·      Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

·      Maintain outside contact with public programs and schedules requiring organizing and time management.

·      Establish and maintain effective working relations with the public, and other employees.

·    Prioritize tasks.

·    Work well under pressure and impending deadlines.

·    Relate well with a variety of persons under varying circumstances.

·    Analyze a situation and make sound recommendations and presentations.

·    Organize, establish and delegate meaningful goals.

·    Manage multiple projects at a time.

Skills:

·    Skill requiring regular use of personal computer, printer, copier and cell / telephone system.

·    Technical photography skills, with an eye for detail. Familiarity with digital cameras and operation of related software programs.
