Job Description

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, performs various tasks as

necessary to provide recreation services to the St. George Community.

Essential Functions (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. The list of tasks is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.)

1. Officiates youth sport games including flag football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, and t-ball.

2. May assist in teaching FUNdamental sport classes which focus on teaching the basics of the above sports to 3-5 year olds.

3. Sets up and takes down all equipment on game nights.

4. Serves on staff of one day events such as Punt, Pass, & Kick; Utah Jazz Fun Shot; and MLB Pitch, Hit, and Run.

5. Writes injury reports for players that get injured during the course of a game.

6. Writes ejection reports for any coach/player that gets eject from a game.

7. Assists in field preparation for each sport.

8. Performs other related duties as required.

Typical Physical/Mental Demands/Working Conditions

Conditions and temperatures may vary depending on the assignment. Requires the use of vision and/or hearing to identify and evaluate emergencies. Must be able to respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies. Requires moderately heavy physical activity exerting 25-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently. Mental demands of intermittent exposure to stress as a result of human behavior.

Note: Individuals in this position must be able to work nights and weekends. A typical assignment will require 4-5 hours. A typical Saturday assignment will require 6-8 hours.


Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications

Education: None required. 

Experience: Prior officiating experience preferred, but not required.

Licenses and/or Certifications:

CPR, First Aid, AED certification required. Must be obtained within 60 days of hire and maintained

throughout employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

Working knowledge of rules and official mechanics in flag football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, and

baseball/softball preferred

Skills:

Ability to:

Communicate effectively with coaches and players.

Handle tense situations by communicating with coaches and players.

Accurately write reports including descriptions of injuries and ejections.
