Job Description

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Lead Aquatics Maintenance Operator, assists in the mechanical operation and maintenance for all City of St. George pools.

Essential Functions (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. The list of tasks is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.)

1. Assists with the mechanical operations and maintenance of City Pool and Sand Hollow Aquatic Center.

2. Performs mechanical operations, pump maintenance, and repair and inspection of pool systems.

3. Operates pool equipment, including pump motors, water feature controllers, timing systems, valves, and boilers according to standard operating procedures and manufacturer’s recommendations as directed.

4. Checks and records chemical balance of pool water systems as scheduled. Performs alkalinity, PH, hardness, chlorine residual, saturation index, and other chemical related tests.

5. Assists in the operation and maintenance of chemical feeder systems. Ensures proper water safety by monitoring and recording chemical flow rates through the systems field computer.

6. Implements, under the direction of the Lead Aquatics Maintenance Worker, safety procedures and OSHA regulations, including MSDS, confined space, lock out/tag out procedures, and respirator protection.

7. Performs pool and equipment cleaning within pool areas, mechanical rooms, and deck surfaces. Cleans pool deck surfaces. Picks up trash or debris.

8. Assists in setup and facility re-organization to support and accommodate special events such as Fernley Invitational, Triathlons, Senior games, and High School Regional swim meet.

9. Performs a variety of duties to maintain cleanliness of pool interior and surrounding areas, including pool vacuuming, brushing, and netting interior surfaces and surge tanks.

10. Maintains and repairs concrete pool decks. Cleans and maintains pool wall and border tile.

11. Maintains a high level of work performance in appearance and workmanship while maintaining health and safety standards. Keeps work areas clean, safe, and organized.

12. Informs Lead Aquatics Maintenance Worker of any vandalism, incidents, inspections problems, and other safety issues immediately. Resolve issues as needed and directed.

13. Performs slide and Hydro-tube cleaning, maintenance, operation, and inspection. Maintains and repairs diving boards and other water attractions.

14. Maintains and repairs lockers and coin operated systems.

15. Performs other related duties as required.

Typical Physical/Mental Demands/Working Conditions

Moderately heavy physical activity. Required to stand, walk, or sit uncomfortably for extended periods. Moderate exposure to some disagreeable elements such as heat, cold, fumes, dampness, noise, or dust. Required to push, pull, or lift medium heavy weights. Exerting up to 50-100 pounds of force occasionally and/or a 20-50 pounds of force frequently. Intermittent exposure to stress as a result of human behavior.

Note: Must be available to work weekends, evenings, holidays, split shifts, and other schedules to help prepare for recreation offerings. This is a part-time position with variable hours averaging less than 28 hours per week over a period of twelve months.


Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications

Education:

Level I & II

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Preference given to those with education in recreation or a related field.

Level II

• High school diploma or equivalent.

Age Requirements: Must be 18 years or older

Experience:

Level I

• Pool maintenance experience preferred.

Level II

• At least one year experience in pool maintenance is required.

• Customer service experience preferred

Licenses and/or Certifications:

Level I & II

• Must possess a valid driver license. A valid Utah Driver License must be obtained within 60 days of hire and be maintained throughout employment. Valid out-of-state drivers licenses may be accepted for active out-of-state students paying out-of-state tuition. Supporting documentation must be submitted to your supervisor each semester for approval.

• CPR, First Aid, AED certification required. Must be obtained within 60 days of hire and maintained throughout employment.

Level II

• Must possess Pool Operator Certification and keep certification current throughout employment.
