Job Description

Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the City of St. George Recreation Supervisor in charge of youth sports, performs a variety of duties such as officiating youth sports, setting up and taking down of equipment on game nights, and field maintenance.

 

Essential Functions (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics.  The list of tasks is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.)

1.            Officiates youth sport games including flag football, basketball, soccer, softball, baseball, and t-ball.

2.            May assist in teaching FUNdamentals sport classes which focus on teaching the basics of the above sports to 3-5 year olds.

3.            Sets up and takes down all equipment on game nights.

4.            Serves on staff of one day events such as NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick; Utah Jazz Fun Shot; and MLB Pitch, Hit and Run.

5.            Writes injury reports for players that get injured during the course of a game.

6.            Writes ejection reports for any coach/parent that gets ejected from a game.

7.            May officiate adult sports such as flag football, basketball, kickball, volleyball, etc.

8.            Assists in presenting awards to players.

9.            Assists in field preparation for each sport.

10.        Performs other related duties as required.

 

Typical Physical/Mental Demands/Working Conditions

Conditions and temperatures may vary depending on the outdoor assignment.  Requires the use of vision and/or hearing to identify and evaluate emergencies.  Must be able to physically respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies. Requires moderately heavy physical activity exerting 20-75 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10-30 pounds of force frequently.  Mental demands of intermittent exposure to stress as a result of human behavior.

 

Note:  Individuals in this position must be able to work nights and weekends.  A typical assignment will require 4-5 hours. A typical Saturday assignment will require 6-8 hours.


Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications

Education:  None required. All applicants must be 16 years or older.

Experience:  Prior officiating experience preferred.

Licenses and/or Certifications:  Must obtain First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications within 60 days of hire which must be maintained throughout employment.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge:

•         Must have a working knowledge of rules and official mechanics in football, basketball, soccer, and softball/basketball.  Bilingual preferred.

Ability to:

•         Communicate effectively with parents, coaches, players, and fans.

•         Handle tense situations by communicating with parents, coaches, and players.

•         Accurately write reports including descriptions of injuries and parent/coach ejections.
